March Style Icon - Fan Bing Bing

Fan Bingbing has been described in the Beijing News as being a ‘fashion icon’ so there’s no surprises that a host of her fans want to look like her. Ranked number one in the ’50 Most beautiful People in China’ list in 2010 by the same newspaper, Fan Bingbing epitomises elegance, glamour and sophistication.

Having successfully graduated from both the Shanghai Xie Jin’s Star School and the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Fan Bingbing has enjoyed a budding career as an actress and also as a producer. Talented in a variety of performing arts, Bingbing has also done a stint as a singer with fans both in China and internationally. She has won a number of awards in recent years including awards from the Tokyo Film Festival, the Golden Horse Film Festival and the Hundred Flowers Awards.

DAY LOOK
There are three core themes running through Fan Bingbing’s day look. The first is a highly sophisticated business look which includes smart tailoring featuring modern cuts and classic colours. Pin stripes are very popular with Bingbing and this is probably to add a sense of height to this otherwise petite actress. The use of wide legged trousers and high waists also helps to give her a well-balanced shape.

At times she favours a red and black colour scheme with dresses playing a key part of the look. Dresses are short in style, typically above the knee which also helps to balance out Bingbing’s proportions. Accessories such as cropped leather jackets and biker style jewellery help to add a touch of fun to her look too.

And finally, Fan Bingbing is a big fan for sophisticated with an air of old school Hollywood glamour, reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe and Katharine Hepburn. The look combines lace dresses with matching coats and capes for a sophisticated look that oozes wealth and glamour.

March Style Icon - Fei Fei Sun

March Style Icon - Fei Fei Sun

The flawless, dynamic and versatile look of Chinese beauty Miss Fei Fei Sun has been hugely sought after since she won Elite's Model Contest in 2008. In just a short space of time she shot to success gracing the catwalks and starring in campaigns for many of the leading international brands and was plucked by fashion king Karl Lagerfeld to represent his Paris-Shanghai collection. Her versatile look sees no limit in both fashion and beauty. Her face is a beautiful canvas that can lend itself to various looks from pretty/ethereal to sharp/androgynous.

She is constantly on the cover of Chinese Vogue, Chinese Elle and Chinese Marie Claire as well as international publications French Vogue, Italian Vogue and British Vogue. Her beauty sees no boundaries from magazines to walking the runway for the likes Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Givenchy, Valentino and Lanvin, to an extensive ad campaign portfolio consisting of Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein and Valentino. Despite sharing her name with a famous Chinese actress, this supermodel is fast becoming a fashion and runway celebrity in her own right.

Just like her looks, Fei Fei's dress sense is versatile. She brings a refreshing sense of sunshine with her glistering look that is luxurious, dressed down and effortlessly cool - what can be simply described as relaxed luxe. We are in love with her neutral colour palette consisting of tans, creams, beige, blacks and navy. By cleverly sticking to this family of colours Miss Sun's wardrobe makes each outfit she puts together an effortless selection each time.

With accessories Fei Fei's more-is-more approach is both experimental and fearless. She wears oversized bags to fit her daily needs as she steps out and hits the streets in her casual-luxe attire. Her bags completely go against all her style codes and are the focal point of the outfit, usually in bold bright colours despite their classic (usually satchel) shape. Her relaxed and fun choice in bags gives her outfit a burst of excitement and fun. When it comes to accessorising her feet Miss Sun makes sure that she has a spring in her step with her collection of comfortable flat boots. Shoes follow her strict neutral colour code, unlike her bags. Her choice in footwear stresses upon comfort with a masculine element from brogues to rock to biker-inspired lace up and buckle ankle boots.

January Style Icon - Rinko Kikuchi

January Style Icon - Rinko Kikuchi

Head liner photography by | Terry Richardson.

This month the style spotlight is on Rinko Kikuchi. Rinko's style can be described as effortless-luxe with an eccentric edge. Her ingenious styling gives off a bold look without much fuss. She makes it quite clear that jewelry and accessories are not essential requirements for a statement look. With a versatile face that can work both avant-garde and ethereal looks, Rinko uses her ever-changing hair style as a vital element when it comes to her personal style. Rinko's style can be broken up into two divisions: sharp 'masculine' daywear and romantic 'feminine' evening wear, both of which focus highly on tailoring.

A Day (Office-to-Cocktail) look inspired by Rinko:
The secret to this look is to opt for neutral or dark colours and then add a splash of colour with just one item. Here's how to do it:

TAILORED TROUSERS:
Start the look with a pair of cigarette trousers in either black, camel or nude. We love Reiss' 'Paris' High Waisted cigarette pants, which is also a timeless and staple wardrobe item you can wear again and again.

FEMININE BLOUSE:
Pair your tailored trousers with a classic long sleeved cream blouse but with an edge. Either a ruffled collar or draped detail works best to create a look that doesn't look too formal and masculine.

SHOCKING BLAZER:
Achieving Rinko's masculine/feminine look is instant by simply adding a punch of colour to a tailored, masculine cut jacket. A bold and bright blazer does the trick but attention must be taken to tailoring. A soft tailored jacket will give the perfect balance of masculine and feminine.

SIMPLE HEELS:
Rinko tends to opt for neutral coloured shoes, mostly in blacks and creams, and in simple shapes with a moderate heel. Patent courts are again another investment piece that creates Rinko's perfect masculine/feminine balance. The heel is perfect for running errands during the day and still appropriate for after work drinks.

And it's that simple!!!

An evening (cocktail) look inspired by Rinko.
So with all the fashion tips above, the key to Rinko's look is a careful balance between sophistication and experimental:

LACE:
Rinko loves lace. Lace is brilliant for a look that is feminine but to make sure that her bold style is not lost, Rinko goes for a statement dress that is edgy and eye catching.

MINI DRESS WITH A FOCUS ON DETAIL:
Rinko isn't afraid to show a bit of skin, but it is always done in an elegant and sophisticated manner. Opt for a sequins dress with a simple shape and add an extra touch of eccentricity by opting for a dress with a cut out at the back.

BUCKLE UP SHOES:
A plain black shoe is essential. Whether you opt for courts or boots make sure they are in a black shade with either buckle or bow details. Not only is Miss Kikuchi a fan of pumps she also loves ankle boots so opt for these (for an extra edge) to complete the look.
